Born in Massachusetts and raised in Kentucky, Sara Reinke wrote her first short story when she was four and has been writing ever since. While she won numerous awards and accolades for her fiction writing in both grade school and high school, during college, Reinke set her sights on a more “grown up” career, that of a journalist. She worked for 10 years in this field as both a writer and an editor. It was not until the deaths of a beloved uncle and her father-in-law in 2001 that she was galvanized to begin creative writing again. “Turns out, what I wanted to be ‘when I grew up’ at age 30 was the same it had been at age four — an author,” Reinke says.
