Life Changes
When I found out I was scheduled to blog here today I was excited. I already had a built in topic – today is my baby boy’s birthday.
I even have cute photos to share – visit my group blog Naughty & Spice and you can check them out — http://naughty-and-spice.com
So three years ago today I had my third and final child, Jack. When I brought him home to the family fold, I knew I was in for it. My husband was working long hours (still does), though I had my nine year old son to help out (thank goodness). My twenty month old daughter was not amused. How dare this new baby come into the house and take away all of her attention! She was rather upset.
It was tough. At first I was overwhelmed and very tired. Lucky for me Jack was an easy baby (he slept through the night at one month old!). It took me a while but I got a pretty good schedule going and all was well.
Then I started to think, hey maybe I should write again.
I wrote a lot when I was younger, a lot of crap that will never see the light of day. I had some old stuff on my hard drive and I re-read it – awful.
So I lurked on writing forums. I entered a contest – and didn’t place. I started chatting on those forums. I wrote a couple of full length novels – meh. Not very good.
I soon discovered epublishing. I bought a bunch of books and devoured them. Especially the hot stuff. They were great! I decided to try my hand at writing an erotic romance novella. Why not? I like it hotter, always wrote it hotter.
Why not indeed. I sold it! I’ve been on this author roller coaster ride ever since.
I owe it to my children that I began pursuing my writing seriously. I probably would’ve never done it if I’d still been working full time. I owe those little sweeties a lot.
Happy Birthday Jack!

Happy Birthday, Jack! That’s so sweet :) I’m glad you got on board the epub writing! You’re fantastic!
Happy Birthday, Jack!
What a wonderful story, Karen. It’s always fascinating to hear how a writer began their career.
Aw thanks Shelli & NJ! I appreciate that.
I always like to hear how writers began their careers too. They’re always so interesting. :)
I hope your boy has (or had as the day is almost done) a great birthday!

I, too, started writing after having kids. Funny what crazy activities being at home with children can lead you into…..
Great post …and Happy Birthday to your Jack!
