Sugar High
So we’re a few days past Halloween and I can already see it kicking in. Candy wrappers litter the floor, the sickly sweet smell of too much chocolate, and the glazed look of a sugar high in my kid’s eyes.
That’s right, The Halloween Hangover is in full swing. And it doesn’t just affect the kids. Adults mindlessly grab another candy bar left over from trick or treat candy. The word diet gets stored in the back of our head under lock and key, while we promise ourselves just one—or ten—little candy bars won’t hurt. (Whistling innocently).
I adore Halloween, it’s a fun and fabulous day that puts us in that out of control spiral into the Holiday Season. It’s the kick off to a couple months of decorations, festivities, and lots and lots of food and sweets. I love this time of year. The gradual transition from fall to winter. The season where traditions are set and repeated.
And despite the fact that October through December tends to hijack a person’s diet, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Besides, what’s life without a little temptation? :) Next stop? Online Christmas shopping in between snagging a piece of Halloween candy.
So what do you think about this time of year? Are you and your kids overdosing on Halloween candy? And are you like me, and already looking on to the holiday season? (Yes, I’m one of those people!)

I’m looking forward to the holiday season, I admit it. Though I’m always insane about halfway through and can’t wait for it to end. Sigh. But I still love it.
And yes we’re all high on candy, I have a permanent stomach ache and I believe my kids’ teeth are stuck together because of too much candy consumption. Yuck. Luckily enough they didn’t get as much this year. Yay! :)
the glazed look of a sugar high in my kid’s eyes.
Hehe. I can totally imagine the lil’un’s eyes all glazed during the middle of a sugar fix. Hehe.
I am looking forward to the holidays, especially Christmas. I’ve never got a tree before and I think I am this year. :D Well see!
I don’t have any kids which is why I had to finish off the bag of reeses peanut butter cups all by myself. :)I love Christmas, but I don’t know if I’ll decorate since it’s just me.
Karen, I know! I’ve eaten 5 mini candybars since Halloween. And sometimes…they’re not even good!
Emma, get a tree!
Bailey, like I said to Emma, get a tree and decorate (you and Emma are in the same boat!)
I’m totally decorating. Me and the kid already strolled down the Xmas aisle at Target and I was in heaven.
gosh and the sale of halloween candy just started the other day, my 15 yr ikd, looked like she wanted to throwup when looking at halloween cleanrace stuff LOL
Tami, I know! Then they put that stuff on half off. And I mean, how can you NOT buy it?
I used to like this time of year more than I do these days. When my kids were ‘kids’ I used to go to a lot of trouble decorating for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I really put a lot of time and effort into it. We’d have big family meals, parties both to attend and to give, and lots of decorations. Now that my “kids” have kids themselves, their festivities center more on their own homes (rightfully so) and because we’re both retired, there aren’t as many parties to attend. It surprised us how much of our entertaining/entertainment was connected to business! At any rate, it doesn’t seem worth the effort as much and I do much less. I still enjoy the season, though. Just the transition from fall to winter, winter seems to be a peaceful time of reflection.
ROFL and don’t forget to add how many times you go rooting through your kids Halloween candy looking for that last little candy bar, even though you know that you ate the last one, a day or so ago, and it’s not going to be spontaneously recreated. But just maybe if you look long enough you will find one that you missed.
Halloween is my second favorite holiday and definitely the most fun. I could do without the candy, although, of course, it’s my favorite part. :) I bought 5 bags of fun bars and we only had one batch of trick-or-treaters. Yes, I sent the whole bowl to work with my dh, but not until I nabbed 5 or 6 Reese’s peanutbutter cups first. lol.
Oh, my favorite holiday is Labor Day. Don’t have to make a big dinner, don’t have to hammer my cards for gifts I can’t afford to buy, don’t have to decorate. (Actually, I love to decorate—it’s the taking down and putting away that I could do without.)
Happy Holidays!
Jacquie
Judy, I hear that a lot about when the kids move out or have their own families. Some of the wind gets sucked out of the spirit.
Hayley, I always dig for the candies my daughter doesn’t like. And she’s almost four, so of course there’s only like three candy bars she’ll eat (no nuts!) So it’s really hard to avoid temptation!
Jacquie, lol! Labor Day!! You crack me up, and your reasoning is so dead on!
