Fondling the pages...

Alaina's PromiseOf a book in print is close to a spiritual experience for me … especially when that book is my own. My historical romance, ALAINA’S PROMISE, is now available with its full-color, gorgeous cover!

Don’t get me wrong, I adore digital books and feel they are a fantastic alternative to their predecessors. Ebooks save space; money; time (in the shipping and/or shopping process); and trees! They also help alleviate the enormous guilt I often feel by saying: “I have nothing to read!”
(Please note the two rather large stacks of paperbacks in that corner and the four boxes of books in the other room.)

Digital books are much easier to hide. ;)

But there’s just something … I don’t know … elemental and emotional about holding that paperback in my hands; touching the smooth cover; turning the pages; breathing in that new book smell. It’s all a very sensual experience.

When I pick up a book, I step back in time to my very first books and the love I felt while my mother read to me. I remember the feelings evoked from later books as I’d sit and read alone in some secluded, quiet place.

I suppose you could say print books are somewhat akin to comfort food for me. :) So, I embrace eBooks with full acceptance … but I’ll always have room for just one more stack of paperbacks.

  1. Ha! Yes, digital books make for a much neater TBR pile, that’s for sure. :)
But, yes, I agree. There is a level of intimacy with a good paperback book.

  2. Hi, Jennifer! I’m glad you agree. It’s nice to know I’m not alone in this particular quirk. (GGG)
