A Poolhouse Conversation: What is SEXY?

“Here’s the topic of the day.” Mimosa in hand, Kathleen Palmer sinks into the cushioned chair and glances around at her fellow heroines. The pool house opens onto a gorgeous aquamarine bay, filmy white curtains flapping in the breeze. “What you find sexy in a man, and not the obvious answers.”

“Sexy and not obvious?” Autry Holton nibbles her lower lip, chestnut hair curving along her jaw. “That’s hard.”

“No, it’s not.” Lanie O’Reilly nudges Autry’s thigh with her toe. “Sexy is when your guy naps with the baby on his chest.”

Autry nudges right back. “Only problem is I have neither a guy nor a baby, remember?”

“Well, there’s something that gets your motor revving,” Lanie says, grinning. “You may be buried in Waiting-for-Releaseville, but not so long that you’ve forgotten what.”

“You’d be surprised.” Autry pushes a hand through her hair. “A guy who sings off key in the shower.” She swivels to tap Kathleen’s thigh. “Your turn.”

Kathleen lifts her champagne flute with a secretive smile. “A guy padding around in bare feet. Or his socks.”

“Oh, I love that. John has cute feet.” Lanie sits up, obviously warming to the subject. “Watching him shave is hot too.”

Autry’s expression turns wistful. “I used to love to watch Stanton pull off his tie and roll up his sleeves. And he painted my toes for me—that was sexy. I miss that. I don’t miss him, but I miss that.”

Kathleen fixes her with a look but doesn’t say anything about the obvious not-missing-him lie. “Having a guy help you with a zipper or a necklace. That’s hot.”

“Cait.” Lanie leans sideways and smacks her cousin’s bare thigh. “There must be something you find sexy about that Georgia boy of yours.”

“Several somethings,” Caitlin replies.

“Then give.”

Caitlin rolls her eyes. “Okay. I like…the way he tangles his feet up with mine when we’re talking in bed.” A pretty smile tips the corners of her mouths. “There’s something really hot about lying in bed and watching him get dressed after we’ve made love.” Her soft husky laugh bubbles from her lips. “And I love how he gets distracted and forgets what he’s saying when I start to undress.”

Lanie laughs. “John does that too. That is sexy.”

“Girls, this is really depressing.” Autry drains her mimosa. “All you’re doing is reminding me how long it’s been since a guy made me feel all special and hot and bothered at the same time.”

All right, gentle readers . . . pull up a lounger, have a mimosa and share what little actions you find sexy in a man . . .

  1. The way he’s not afraid to tell me he’s proud of me. I mean, yeah, I don’t need that kind of validation, but knowing he supports me one hundred percent? Very sexy.

That and the way he looks in tight jeans…

  2. Oh, Dana, that is fabulously sexy.

    And sweet, too!

  3. sexy is a soft touch, a person that supports your dreams, someone you can be yourself with, and they love you anyways. A low vioce whipsered in your ear…a hug a kiss…a touch

  4. All those things you all mentioned, plus the way his sky blue eyes crinkle up at the corners. You just know that he spends a great deal of time smiling. The gentle touch of his hand on your back as he guides you when you’re walking – just because he’s a gentleman in a time when not a lot of guys are anymore. The way he invites me to put my cold feet on his legs to warm up when we crawl into bed. The way he always treats me with respect – like a lady, but as an equal – so he can teach our sons the proper way to treat a woman. And the way he makes me laugh like a hyena because he loves to tell totally inappropriate off-color jokes.

    Yup, sexy.
