The Five Manuscript Update

The last time I blogged here, I talked about setting some goals for this year. My goal for 2008 was to have five completed manuscripts.

Well, so far so good!

I managed to finish my contemporary, Take Me I’m Yours. This story follows the romance of Graeme and Marion. Graeme has been in love with Marion for years, only she doesn’t know it. Instead, he pours his heart out onto the canvas (he’s a somewhat famous local artist). And Marion is mending a broken heart. Her fiance, Ethan, left her at the alter (and Graeme happened to be the best man).

Graeme and Ethan had a falling out and now that Marion has walked back into his life, he’s ready to get her for himself. But of course, Ethan isn’t so ready to let the two have a happy ending. ;)

Once I finished that, I started working on another new contemporary called Sex, Lies and Martinis. For the first time ever, I’m writing in first person and I have to say, it feels pretty good.

Characters are a strange thing. They tend to demand and tell you how and what to write. In this case, I have a very demanding heroine. Her name is Delilah (Marion’s best friend in the aforementioned Take Me I’m Yours) and she insisted I write the book in first person.

It seems Delilah is going to face some pretty interesting dating issues. She’s interested in two men. One happens to be her ex-husband from long ago when she was in her early 20s. Can a relationship rekindle after 15 years of nothing? Is it possible for her to fall in love with him all over again. Well, only Delilah has the answer to that question. ;)

I’m also working on a new fantasy with romantic elements. It’s what I tentatively call the dragon story about a dragon, a fair maiden, a dragon hunter determined to kill the beast, a future king, and a lovely elven princess. I’m using the traditional Good Vs. Evil them, throwing in a quest to try and save a boy’s ailing mother, as well as getting the rightful king on the throne of a kingdom overpowered by an evil Dark Elf. Sound intriguing? Let’s just hope I can finish that one…AND pull it off.

And let’s just see where I am in my own quest to finish those five manuscripts next time I blog here. ;)

Happy Reading!

  1. That’s fantastic!!

I hope you finish all of them too. :)

  2. Wow, Michelle. 5 Manuscripts? Brilliant.
I once set myself a goal of writing four in one year. LOL. I have to laugh at that. I have since discovered I am strictly a one manuscript a year writer.

Good luck getting all 5 completed… and sold.

  3. Good for you, Michelle. As you well know, I’m a big believer in trusting your characters.

  4. Thanks, Jennifer & Jess! I hope I make it too. haha :) March was a frustrating month for me, so I’m hoping April will be better.
