A Wet and Soggy Vacation

One of the most popular destination spots for a vacation or a weekend down here in the South is the beach. People love going to the coast and I’m no exception. With spring break last week, I booked a nice condo in South Carolina, checked the weather (mid-to upper seventies) and hopped in the car with my family. So, what happened?

After a year-long drought, it decided to rain. A LOT.

sigh

There’s nothing like spending a butt-load of money to sit inside a condo and watch it rain, eh? At first the weather forecast said every day but Sunday would be nice, then the evil trolls who control said weather cackled and changed their minds…

On Saturday when we arrived, we went to have lunch in a restaurant. It was around 60 but the wind was whipping so it felt much colder. We ordered and just before our food arrived, the power went out. Um, yeah. We ate in the shadows until someone had the bright idea to open the door to let light in. So then we shivered and ate in the semi-darkness.

Bad start, right?

We walked around a bit and did a few things but the wind was too cold so we ended the day having dinner and going back to the condo. Sunday dawned like a demon from hell. Holy ever-loving cow.

It never got above 46 and it rained with that razor-sharp wind blowing. Miserable, blech. But we hoped it would be better Monday. Then we saw the forecast for the rest of the week. Rain every day!!

We made the most of it and did indoor stuff like movies. When the rain let up, we ran out and tried to get some outdoor stuff done, but there were a lot of puddles.

A couple walks on the beach were the closest we got to swimming. It was not a good beach vacation, but we survived. The only good thing is that the drought has eased significantly, so I can be happy about that.

My bathing suit, however, lies in wait for a sunny beach vacation.
