History has been made!

Did you hear the news? A woman, Danica Patrick, has won an Indycar race! WON, as in first place! In a major auto racing event!

That’s such great news…why?

Because it’s one more step made in the path to show skeptics that women possess incredible skills and shouldn’t be dismissed as the weaker sex.

And that’s where the problem is rooted for many people, thinking of women as being the weaker sex. I’m not buying that. The proof of how wrong this is was in front of me just last week. I just spent four days at the RT Booklovers Convention where women were in the majority. There were readers, booksellers, businesswomen and authors, all levels of accomplishment in achieving their personal goals.

Oh, and let’s not forget how well ladies have mastered multi-tasking. Many are holding down at least one full-time job as well as being a full-time mother, wife and friend. Women are making history everyday in homes across the world, without any congratulations being offered, but when it’s brought to the forefront, well, that’s cause for celebration.

On a personal note, I thought I’d share with you a professional recognition I received this past week. While manning the Samhain table at Club RT – such a blast and I had a chance to chat with so many wonderful readers there – a reviewer, Laura, handed me a copy of the June Romantic Times BOOKreviews. She said Zandia was inside so I went flipping through the pages with nerves bringing the review forward all too quickly. The first thing I noticed was the four stars, fantastic and exciting, I could stop right there. With a deep breath I read on and it turned even better as I took in the reviewer’s comments. Keitha Hart started:

“This wildly entertaining story incorporates romance, hot, talk-dirty-to-me love scenes and commentary on women’s role in society. It’s fascinating to watch the protagonists develop a lasting relationship.”

I smiled. Sometimes it’s what someone else writes or says that affirms my desire to write about women who are independent and confident, the men who love them for who themselves, and their twisting path to a happy-ever-after ending is being accomplished.

From someone who has been on the receiving end of a job well done, I’m saying to you…well done in all you do. Take a moment and let that sink in, accept it, now share it. I know, your day/night is most likely full, but take a few minutes to go out or pick up the phone and give your grandma, mom, aunt, sister, daughter or best-friend a hug for all they’ve done. Of course they’ll continue do what they do without anyone giving them four stars or written kudos, but a few words of acknowledgement goes a long way.

Trust me, it will make them and walk a little taller with a smile on their face.

Zandia is now available in eBook and paperback from Samhain, Amazon/Borders, Barnes & Noble and from your local bookstore.

New Beginnings: Carpe Diem is now available in eBook from Samhain Publishing.
