It must be love

Today is my wedding anniversary. Hubby gave me a card and flowers, but I have to wait until Friday to get my extra special present. Okay, so it’s not diamonds or a weekend in Paris, but my man is going above and beyond the call of duty on this one.

What’s he got me? Two seats at the new Indiana Jones movie, that’s what! And before you say, “is that all?” let me explain why it’s extra special. He gets a form of motion sickness at the movies. I imagine it’s a combination of the huge screen, extra loud music and the speed of the visuals during action movies—plus the popcorn and fizzy drinks don’t help. But despite my protests, he insists we’re going, and in my eyes that makes him more of a hero than Indiana himself.

My hero has sat through many an adventure movie without telling me how it made him feel, but a few years back after a particularly bad experience during Lara Croft, Tomb Raider, he confessed. Since then I’ve gone to the cinema with friends. But we’re both huge fans of Indiana Jones and he really wants us to share this on the big screen as an anniversary treat.

I can’t wait to see this movie. At first I had reservations about Harrison Ford taking on the role again, well he is 65, but I just can’t resist. We have the boxed set of the trilogy and I swear I know the scripts verbatim. My blood stirs when I see that trademark hat, jacket and whip (behave) and it takes me back to those carefree days of Saturday morning movies when the hero always saved the day. Besides, something tells me that they’ll be plenty of send-up jokes during the movie, little allusions to Ford’s age. There’s a glimpse of this in the trailer when, during a tricky encounter with the enemy, one of the characters complains “this ain’t gonna be easy” and Jones replies, “not as easy as it used to be.” Fabulous.

So, here’s hoping my man can survive and enjoy. But whatever happens, I’ll be sure to reward his efforts …
