A Series of Unfortunate Events

What is it with me that I can’t just write one book? No, I have to write series. I fall in love with a world, and then all the secondary characters become all shiny and pretty and want me to write them, too.

Case in point: my next Samhain release. Total Eclipse of the Heart. It was supposed to be a book all by itself. But, then it tied in so well with another book I had that needed a home, Big Girls Don’t Die. A little tweak here and there, and POOF! Sequel.

But that wasn’t enough, was it? Noooo, no. Instead, I decided it needed to be a series. Because it’s just more fun that way. My editor, being a wicked woman, did nothing to discourage this pattern of behavior. In fact, she said, “How about TWO more books rather than a trilogy? That way you can go into print when they’ve all been e-released.” The idea of having one of my pretty, pretty Samhain covers in print in my hot little hands was just more than I could resist. Really, I blame my editor. She’s like my dealer now, offering me the prospect of shiny covers in exchange for writing JUST ONE MORE.

Thus, the In The Heat Of The Night series was born. It’ll be coming out from October of 2008 to August of 2009 and then go into print some time in 2010. I think. Don’t quote me on that because I’m going on memory for dates. My editor and I did come up with some of the most fun titles for this series too. Sadly, my dealer—uh, editor—knows what a title whore I am. More pretty-shinies for me to crave like the addict I am. sigh

In order, the titles are:

Total Eclipse of the Heart
Big Girls Don’t Die
It’s Raining Men
Crazy Little Thing Called Love

Sense a song title pattern for those (and the series title, too)? Oh, yeah. I like it original. In any case, I’m loving writing this series. It’s all kinds of naughty fun. But I still blame my editor.

  1. That sounds like so much fun!

I’m a series junkie, too, both reading and writing. And if I catch glimpses of my favorite characters from previous books, that makes it even better. =)

  2. Awesome Crys. Sounds like so much fun. Can’t wait to read them.
