Enough Already!
Yeah, I know it’s January. In western New York. I should expect it, right? I’m used to the snow. I have winter driving skills honed from years of driving through lake effect snow. I have three pairs of boots. Hats. Gloves. Warm coats. Tons of sweaters. I know what winter’s like. I’m prepared.
But this year I’m so tired of the constant snow and cold I could just scream! We have to dig out nearly every day. There’s been so much snow that there’s no place to put it all. When I drive, I have to nearly pull out into the intersection before I can see if there are any cars coming over the snow piled up at the end of the street. I’m waiting to get clipped one of these days.
I know I should take up skiing. Or snowboarding. Or snowmobiling. The people who enjoy those sports have been rejoicing in our winter weather. But I honestly just don’t like to be cold that much. I like to curl up with a book in front of the fire. Sip on hazelnut coffee and cook up a big batch of soup.
Each morning, when I have to scrape the ice off my windshield and brush off another five or six inches of snow I wonder when we’re going to get that January thaw. Come on, Mother Nature, there’s only another week. Do you think we could get above freezing?? Please??
OK, I feel better after my little rant. I’m going to go throw another log on the fire and stir the soup. And dream about spring.
So, how’s your weather???

It’s cold, sunny and windy this afternoon…but that could change to rain or a light smattering of snow, or hail. It could also get warmer.
We seem to have all weather on a daily basis. I have no clue what it’ll do next, lmao
For the moment, I do believe we’re getting less snow and cold than you. Go figure. But I feel your pain. There are times we’re shoveling every day too, sometimes twice a day. I asked my DH for a 4-wheeler with a small plow for Christmas (we have a large area to clear in our yard/driveway for two vehicles), but alas, no such beast was under our tree this year.
Stay warm!
Oh, I am so there with you about the snow – I’m in southern Ontario, but a lot of folks south of the Lake get way more snow than we do. I was saying to my husband the other day that the city used to come around regularly and cart away the tops of the banks at the side of the road so they weren’t a traffic impediment they way they are now but because of cutbacks that’s one of the things they’ve stopped doing. As you say, someone’s going to get in a bad accident because of them (if they haven’t already.) It’s dangerous!
LOL Kim, we have a saying – “If you don’t like the weather…wait a minute.” But this January has been just more of the same.
Cathy, my DH does have a snowblower, so that helps some.
Leah, I almost got hit tonight on the way home! Ugh, I hate not being able to see at the intersections!
At least Mother Nature must have heard me grumbling. It’s actually 42 degrees outside right now. Wow, that’s practically balmy compared to the below zero temps we’ve had! lol
