Writing is not for Wimps
I made some New Year’s resolutaions that involved doing more to further my writing career. Which means going out an finding professionals to tell me what my work is missing, why agents are continuously rejecting my stories. I get plenty of requests for manuscripts, so I must write a pretty good query letter, but the story itself falls down somewhere and ultimately I get the dreaded ‘not for us’ letter.
Everything in its own time
Lately my life has taken a turn I never thought it would. I’m about to go to Graduate School. I NEVER thought I would – when I was done with undergrad, that degree in hand, I declared myself FINISHED. And yet, here I am. Not only Graduate School, but going for a Masters in Library Science.
It was not my lifelong dream to be a librarian
Library love
Seems like I was just here…oh, I guess I was. A week or so ago (all the days seem to run together anymore) I was here promoting the print edition of THE ANKH OF ISIS. It’s the second book in the Library of Athena series, which brings me to my topic – libraries.
The Ankh of Isis is out in paperback!
Ten months is a long time. Nearly a year, in fact :P. Since The Ankh of Isis came out in electronic format, I’d almost forgotten how much fun it was to write. Since then, I’ve finished the next in the series (and crossing everything that it gets accepted!).
Oh, for the love of books!
I’m a substitute teacher. I have degrees and certificates that say I can get a job as a regular teacher, but so far it’s been a no go. With this economy, no one’s hiring much, and not many are retiring. Then the perfect sub job fell into my lap – a two and a half month stint running an elementary school library.
Stimulate the economy - buy books
This blog thing snuck up on me! I almost completely forgot except that I got a reminder yesterday. Ack! Things are so crazy around here – a new semester, a new book I’m trying to finish and hand in, a new freelance job showing up in the email that I just can’t pass up because, well, we’re in a recession. Any opportunity to beef up the bank account is welcome.
The Crown of Zeus releasing in print TOMORROW!
I’m so happy that THE CROWN OF ZEUS, the first in the Library of Athena series, is releasing in print tomorrow!
Kinda like a Fairytale
This week, the world witnessed something of historic proportions. Hollywood couldn’t have written a better script than what happened on election night. It was like Cinderella trying on the slipper and Prince Charming kissing Sleeping Beauty all rolled into one.
Back to School!
Oh my gods! Is it the end of August already??? School is just around the corner, but I’m prepared – new backpack, new clothes, folders, an art smock. There’s a stockpile of gluesticks in my drawer.
The Ankh of Isis is HERE!

Today, the second book in the Library of Athena series, THE ANKH OF ISIS, is released by Samahain!
I am so excited for the release – this series is sort of my baby. The books have it all – mythology, magic, adventure, girl bonding. THE ANKH OF ISIS even adds a little romance into the mix. Don’t get too excited – it IS a Young Adult book, after all. As is indicated by the title, this book takes Megan Montgomery and her friends into another enchanted book and drops them in the deserts of Ancient Egypt, where not only do they have to get themselves home, but also avoid the man who seems to be bent on taking their lives in the bargain.
I really have to thank Samhain for taking these books on. They’ve been super to me, providing me with tons of support and terrific cover art. It’s kept me working hard. I hope they will be just as excitged about the third one…once I finish and submit it!
Now is the time I’m most nervous. All the writing and rewriting, editing, comes to fruition today, and I just hold my breath and hope that you all like it.
I hope you do.
