Writing as a solitary business?

We all know that getting a book published is a team effort.
The author must come up with the idea and write the story, first and foremost. Without the idea, there’s nowhere to go, no product to put out there for the reader to purchase and enjoy and tell their friends about.
The editor must work with the author to polish that story to the best of both abilities. Often times, like here at Samhain, there’s more than one level of editor as well, so it’s polishing to the best of many abilities.
If it's not romance...
In the epublishing world, romance is King. Maybe that should be Queen, and perhaps I should expand that statement to include the genre fiction world. After all, the statistic claiming 54% of paperback sales are romance fiction is pretty widely reported.
But Samhain Publishing doesn’t only publish romance. Though the majority of our titles are romance, in all sub-genres (with the exception of inspirational and horror romance, I believe), I thought I’d mention the fact that we’re also looking for well-written stories that may fall outside the bounds of romance.
