When Alaina Ryan promised to take her father home to die, she never dreamed he wished her to marry a stranger.

After surviving the War Between the States and a violent attack, she’s unable to stand the thought of a man’s touch. But her betrothed awakens new feelings and Alaina finds herself trusting him despite her fears.

Torin O’Brien regrets his misspent youth and the death of his first love. Unwilling to burden another with the shadow cast over his life, he refuses to consider marriage. Then Alaina’s beauty and sweet nature tempt him beyond measure, and his resolve is sorely tested.

But what kind of life can they share if no one trusts a man accused of murder?

  1. 5 Angels!
“Meg Allison is a wonderful author and she made me fall in love with the characters in this book as well as with the country of Ireland. From the roughness of the rocks to feeling the sea spray on my face, I couldn’t help but fall in love with the beautiful countryside. Alaina and Torin both have fears that they must get over before this story can have a happy ending. Alaina’s fear was only hinted at but the scene in which she tells Torin what happened to her is one of the most heart wrenching scenes in a book that I’ve ever read…. if you love a good mystery you definitely need to read this book. A great job, Ms. Allison!”

  2. 4 Stars!
Alaina’s Promise by Meg Allison sweeps you onto Irish shores into the middle of a love that is meant to be, but too many things stand in the way for Torin and Alaina to be happy together. The secrets both characters carry with them are horrendous and quite tragic and it is nice to watch as they strip each other’s pain away with their growing love. All of the characters are well written, including Alaina’s father and Torin’s mother, both of whom bring more richness to the book with their own story. All in all, a very nice story with characters you have to like, a romance to make you ooh and ahh, a mystery with unexpected twists and turns, and a love that will warm your heart.
